David Lettermen Gets Deep
I received an e-mail yesterday that contained a letter allegedly written by David Letterman. Its message was extremely powerful and it just makes you think. We live in the greatest, freest nation in the world, and yet 67% of us are unhappy with the direction we are going. What has made us so ungrateful for everything that we have? Please read this.
As most of you know I am not a President Bush fan, nor have I ever been, but this is not about Bush, it is about us, as Americans, and it seems to hit the mark. The other day I was reading Newsweek magazine and came across some Poll data I found rather hard to believe. It must be true given the source, right? The Newsweek poll alleges that 67 percent of Americans are unhappy with the direction the country is headed, and 69 percent of the country is unhappy with the performance of the President. In essence 2/3 of the citizenry just ain’t happy and want a change. So being the knuckle dragger I am, I started thinking, ‘What are we so unhappy about?’
A. Is it that we have electricity and running water 24 hours a day, 7 Days a week?
B. Is our unhappiness the result of having air conditioning in the summer and heating in the winter?
C. Could it be that 95.4 percent of these unhappy folks have a job?
D. Maybe it is the ability to walk into a grocery store at any time and see more food in moments than Darfur has seen in the last year?
E. Maybe it is the ability to drive our cars and trucks from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean without having to present identification papers as we move through each state?
World War III Video Game
While I was watching the Colbert Report the other night, they showed the most frightening commercial that I have ever seen. It started out with a couple news clips of the poor economy, natural disasters, high gas prices, and conflicts in the Middle East. It then started showing space weapons that the Chinese have been able to develop. It then cut to a quote from John F. Kennedy, “Mankind must put an end to war, or war will put an end to mankind.” There was a countdown to 2020 and then the commercial showed an atomic bomb go off with a mushroom cloud, the screen went to static, and there was about 30 seconds of dead air.
Well, the creators of the previous Tom Clancy video games are coming out with a World War 3 game and it was released the day after yesterday’s election. It’s called EndWars and depicts the U.S. fighting against Russia and China. You can call it sick and twisted or an incredible attempt to make money, but it looks like the video game may foreshadow the road we are going down.
Here is the commercial that was aired:
