Keeping An Eye On Obama’s First “International Crisis”

This comes from the Daily Mail:

The first of the challenges thrown at the President-elect, who received his first national security intelligence briefing yesterday, came from the Russian President Dmitry Medvedev. He threatened to base warheads along the Polish border if Obama goes ahead with a Bush administration plan to create a missile shield in Eastern Europe.

Then Israel warned Obama last night that his claim that he was ready to open talks with Iran could be seen in the Middle East as a sign of weakness.

Furthermore, Afghanistan’s president Hamid Karzai demanded that Obama ‘put an end to civilian casualties’ by changing U.S. military tactics to avoid airstrikes in the war on the Taliban. He spoke out after seven wedding party guests were accidentally killed by an American airstrike.

EU voices strong concern over Russian Missiles.

Al-Qaida leader warns Obama to withdraw from Iraq and Afghanistan.

Video: Obama’s Pre-Election Basketball Game

We were able to get our hands on some exclusive footage of Obama’s pre-election basketball game, which is a tradition for Obama.

I can’t wait until he heads over to Iran to have lunch with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to talk things out. If I were him, I would attempt this proposal to Iran’s president: Basketball game, 1-on-1, make-it take-it, first one to 11. I win, Iran stops its nuclear program. You win, the U.S. will leave the region.

Obama Elected: What They’re Saying

Here are a couple links that I’ve rounded up on some articles that I found intriguiging.

Secret Obama Tax Plan Revealed. This article chronicles an extremely sophisticated conservative’s encounter with a rather uneducated person who was working the Obama phone banks. It’s funny sad to realize just how ignorant some most Obama supporters are when it comes to the issues. This one is worth reading. You should also read some of the comments. When an Obama supporter making calls was asked by someone what a “capital gain” was, they responded “that’s when the big corporations make profits.” The stupidity in America is simply mind-boggling. And you know what? There are 50 million other people out there that are just like him.

Facebook Groups Already Calling To Impeach Obama. Wow, that was fast. The group currently doesn’t have as many members as groups calling for George Bush to be impeached, but we’ll wait and see how long it takes for that to occur.

Democrats in Congress weary of overreaching. Now that the Democrats control the White House and majorities in both the House and the Senate, they know they have to be on their best behavior if they want to keep this power throughout President Obama’s term. Most of us can now exhale knowing that there will be a moderate approach, rather than a radical socialist approach, to tackling some issues early on in Obama’s presidency.

Iraqis confident Obama won’t withdraw troops too quickly. Obama has stated that he plans to bring the troops in Iraq back home immediately and has at other times supported a 16-month timetable to get the troops back home. Currently, Iraqi leaders are working with the U.S. on a timeline of 2011 for withdrawal.

Iran’s Ahmadinejad congratulates Obama. After US/Iran relations have been strained for nearly three decades, Iran’s president, who has called for Israel to be “wiped off the map,” offered his congratulations to Obama and said that he hopes Obama will bring change to the US’s foreign policy.

The Market Reacts To Obamanomics

Right after Obama was elected president of the United States, I turned to those around me and said, “the Dow will go down 500 points tomorrow.” Historically, the market always goes down the day after a new president is elected. However, the market has never gone down this much. I missed my prediction by merely 14 points. The Dow dropped 486 points.

My next bold prediction was that by July, when the Dow hits 6,000 and gas is $5.00 a gallon, America will realize what a mistake they’ve made. I certainly hope that prediction doesn’t come true. I thought that the market would rebound today after the huge slide yesterday, but it’s down again. At noon it’s already down another 296 points. The Dow has dropped over 750 points in just 10 hours of market activity after Obama has been elected president. I guess that pretty much demonstrates the market’s confidence in Obama.

On a positive note, the market’s reaction may send a message to Obama that he cannot raise the dividends and capital gains tax.

Update: The Dow finished down another 443 points today. The Dow is down 929 points in two days. That’s almost a 10% drop. This is the worst two-day plunge since 1987.

The Marketplace of Ideas: The Best Way To Learn

This has been by far the most sensitive election ever. Whether you’re Democratic or Republican, liberal or conservative, left or right, supporting Obama or supporting McCain, I’ve always believed talking about politics with others, although it may lead to anger and heated debates, is important to help each other grow intellectually.

There is no greater place to learn than a forum that encourages the “marketplace of ideas.” As I’ve sent political e-mails to many of my friends, I’m sure I’ve offended many of my friends who hold different political beliefs from me. I have always opened myself up to hear both sides and I will listen to and respect anyone’s opinion. I believe that the First Amendment is the most important right that we have and exercising that right is one of the greatest freedoms that we possess.

As a “conservative right-winger” myself, I can’t help but wait to be spoon-fed everything by the Drudge Report. I came across an interesting article that got quite a lengthy debate going between Obama and McCain supporters. It was quite enlightening and extremely entertaining to read what people from both sides of the argument had to say. I read every comment left by everyone and here are some of the ones that found interesting:

I find it discouraging that on this day in our country’s history all we can do is tell other people how wrong they are. I respect people even if I do not agree with them. I may not understand or agree with their point of view but I do not need to demean them to express mine.

One of America’s basic rights, freedom of speech, gives us the right to state our opinions. However, it is our values and character that steer us through how that expression of opinion is to be carried out.

I’m so looking forward to an Obama administration fixing everything in this country. Just think we will actually have a balanced budget or even a surplus, free medical care, no more mortgages, free health care, free gas, and all the ruthless leaders in the world will get together and sing cum by yah at Obamas former church.

I guess I can stop working hard and saving my money for retirement… because change we can believe in is coming!

Thank you Obama!

————————————-

America voted for change in 2006 (by electing a Democratic Congress). Since then:

Unemployment up from 4.5% to 6.1%…
Housing market crashed…
Stock Market almost crashed…
The DOW dropped 6000…
$850 Billion bailout…
GDP shrinking…
Consumer confidence down…

————————————-

It is true we have lost some jobs approximately 1 million but what the liberal media will not tell you as that over the past 8 yrs there have been over 7 million created. Unemployment was at a all time low of 4.1 percent not since Nixon has it been that low of course under Nixon it was 3 percent. The stock market reached record numbers and only since the housing screw up by the house democrats which by the way have been in charge of the congress for the last 2 years. The market was hit pretty bad and now looks like it has corrected itself and now may be moving back up. After 9/11 the DOW hit 6200. So, it does prove that America will rebound. If you want to be successful in this country go to work and live the American dream. If you sit around and wait for the government to help you then you will remain poor and uneducated.

————————————-

As the age-old adages sayings go, “You can tell a man’s character by the company he keeps”, and “evil companions corrupt good morals.”

————————————-

For me the great pleasure will be six to nine months form now when the voters being to realize that Obama cannot deliver the miracles he promised. The economy continues to tank and his blaming Bush begins to wear thin.

————————————-

(Here is a good argument from the other side.)

The president has the power of Veto. Of the 6 Trillion Bush added to the debt, all but one budget was passed by a GOP dominated congress. One was passed by a congress where dems had a slight majority.

Dems may be “tax and spend” but the GOP has become “borrow from your grandkids and spend”

————————————-

As far as I know, Congress controls the purse strings, thus our economy, not the President. As far as I know, our economy started going bad only since there has been a majority of Democrats in Congress. Two years ago when we had a Republican majority in Congress, there was nothing wrong with our economy. I know that President Clinton also benefited from a majority of Republicans in the Congress too. It is a shame that most people do not know how our government really works and just blame our President for everything. Like the Presidency is a catch all spot for mistakes made by all our elected government officials. That is what allows them time after time to shift the blame to others.

————————————-

There is a reason why radical left politicians have always been eliminated in the presidential elections of the past. The reason is that there still is enough responsible and intelligent citizens out there who don’t take the media’s biased reporting as fact, and make up there own minds based on common sense and sound logic. But maybe we as a nation have come to a point where we can be easily duped by a dangerously radical leftist politician and influenced by the most irresponsible national media in the world. Pity!

It’s not that fun when it’s YOUR wealth being spread around.
