Obama’s Stimulus: Success or Failure

Ron Paul and Robert Reich debate whether Obama’s $787 billion stimulus was a success or failure and whether Keynesianism or Austrian free-market economics is the answer for the nation’s problems.

Ron Paul on Health Care

“It’s a fallacy to say people have a right to somebody else’s services.  You have a right to your life, and you have a right to your liberty, and you have a right to earn a living, you ought to have a right to keep it, but you have a responsibility to take care of yourself. But you don’t have a right to get something from government because the government has nothing so government has to take it from somebody and give it to you, so it’s a failed policy.  It’s a form of socialism and socialism doesn’t work.” – Ron Paul

The Death of the Republican Party

Ron Paul recently wrote an excellent opinion letter for CNN. He starts his opinion letter by asking “whose to blame for the downfall of the Republican Party?” The problem with the Republican party is that over the past eight years they’ve abandoned the core Republican principle of shrinking the size of government, and instead, have vastly increased the size of government. Traditionally, the goal of the Republican party has been to shrink the size of government and limit spending. However, we’ve seen the national debt grow from $5.5 trillion in 2000 to over $10 trillion in 2008.

America then elected Barack Obama because he brought “change.” But what change? Change is just a cliche. If the change Barack Obama is talking about is drastically increasing the size of government, then I guess you can say that Obama is for change. However, that’s been the problem with government over the last eight years, not the solution.

Stop and ask yourself, what has gotten us into this mess in the first place? The answer is drastic amounts of government spending. The next question is how do we fix it? And Obama’s answer is more government spending.

I certainly recognize that certain problems require government intervention. As unemployment approaches 10%, the government has an obligation to get Americans back to work. In some situations, you cannot simply throw your hands up in the air and say let the free market work itself out. Some problems are just too big for that. My concern is over the slippery slope that bigger government lends itself to. The more dependent we are on the government to solve our problems, the more powerful the government becomes. What starts with a socialized U.S. car industry and socialized health care leads to socialized gas and socialized groceries. That’s my concern.

Rob Paul closed with this message, “The march toward a dictatorial powerful state is now in double time. All those who care — and especially those who understand the stakes involved — have an ominous responsibility to energetically get involved in the battle of survival for a free and prosperous America.”

Ron Paul concludes that America has lost confidence in the Republican party and it will be nearly impossible to regain credibility. Ron Paul states that it will take a new crop of leaders to regain the credibility needed to redirect the Party. Maybe one day I can be that leader.

Ron Paul Lays The Smack-Down On U.S. Monetary Policy

Ron Paul pretty much sums up everything I discussed in my last article on what inflation is doing to the U.S. This video was added in December 2007 and it’s pretty obvious why our economy is a deep recession right now. Notice how the Dow was above 13,000 at this time and is now below 9,000.

“Inflation is alive and well. It’s going up 20% per annum. This just makes the dollar weaker. The real deception is when we distort the value of money. When we create money out of it out of thin air.” – Ron Paul

Maybe he could have won and could help fix the economy.

I’ll have to borrow a joke from Joe Biden. What are the three things that Ron Paul mentions in a sentence? A noun, a verb, and the Constitution!
